The Importance of Sharpening Your Innovation Skills: Come to the DC Service Jam!

We all know it’s super easy to get routinized into our daily lives and delay taking advantage of new opportunities, no matter how beneficial or cool they are. We’ve all been there; it might be delaying taking a much needed vacation, or reaching out to an old friend or even signing up to volunteer somewhere.

However, we’ve found at Peer Insight that it is important to take advantage of those new opportunities, especially where we can sharpen our skills as innovation consultants and communication designers.

Innovation methods like design thinking and service design are like playing an instrument: the more you do it the better you are at using the toolkit and applying it to multiple contexts and industries.

Equally important to learning the toolkit is to share the methods. We strongly believe in democratizing design thinking at Peer Insight. When we share our learnings and techniques we all get better. A few years ago, Peer Insight’s founder, Tim Ogilvie, co-authored two books, Designing for Growth and the Designing for Growth Field Guide, to contribute to this field.

If you’re interested in sharpening your skills and learning more ways to tackle big, hairy problems, come to the DC Service Jam starting on Friday, Feb. 26th and ending on Sunday, Feb. 28th.  It will be a hands-on deep dive into service design tools and will run you through brainstorming, user research and rapid prototyping tools. It will also be a great way to take advantage of new opportunities and meet individuals who share your passion!
